ACER, in cooperation with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), held a roundtable discussion on 11.07.2023 about Increasing the oversight role of the Parliament in corruption proofing.

The roundtable was held in the framework of the project: “Increased government accountability through a more responsive parliament”, which is funded by British Embassy in Tirana. The table brought together policy-makers, academics, representatives of the media and civil society, where possible ways for improving the activity of the Albanian Legislature through corruption- proofing and identification of possible interventions in the regulatory acts of institution for closing the paths of this phenomenon in the legislative process were discussed.

Participants explored the current experience of OECD countries in the region, and Albania, as well as two case studies for the draft laws on Public Procurement and Asset Recovery were presented.

The role of civil society is very important to provide findings and specific recommendations to expand the expertise/professionalism, transparency of the process of public consultation of the legal acts of the Government and the initiatives of the Legislature.
