The catalogue, developed with FAO support under the TCP “Capacity Building to Support In-situ Conservation and Use of Animal Genetic Resources” in Albania, presents the first significant efforts to identify, assess, conserve, and sustainably use Albania’s autochthonous farm animal genetic resources (FAnGR). A National Network responsible for implementing the Strategy and Action Plan has evaluated the status of local breeds and identified necessary interventions. The catalogue details 34 local breeds/populations, including their morphological characteristics, population size, reproduction numbers, production systems, and conservation needs, aligning with FAO standards. It serves as a key resource for FAnGR conservation and sustainable use in Albania.
