Home > Agriculture and Rural Development > Assessment of the Value Chain for the selected product in Diber and building of the training module as per needs of farmers

This research, conducted by the Albanian Center for Economic Research (ACER), explored the value chain of apples in Diber, employing a qualitative methodology that included document reviews, interviews with stakeholders, and a focus group with households. In a workshop held on March 16, 2021, experts selected apples based on their potential to improve local livelihoods, market opportunities, and social inclusion. Key obstacles identified were limited market access, lack of collection and storage infrastructure, high agricultural input costs, and competition from imports. Despite challenges, the potential for women’s involvement in the value chain emerged as a positive aspect, though initiatives are lacking. Future policies should prioritize technological investments, storage solutions, capacity-building for product promotion, and support schemes to enhance the value chain and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
