The World Bank has completed its support for the Government of Albania on the “Integrated Coastal Zone Management and Clean-up Project” (ICZMCP), which aimed at promoting sustainable tourism in the Southern Coastal Region. The project focused on improving environmental infrastructure, remediating pollution, and enhancing community development. Specifically, the construction of a modern regional sanitary landfill for non-hazardous waste near Saranda and a transfer station for the Himara area was successfully carried out. Consultants were engaged to assess the socio-economic situation of affected communities and ensure that the project complied with the World Bank’s resettlement policy (OP 4.12). The acquisition of privately owned land for the landfill was completed, with compensation provided at fair market value, ensuring the financial sustainability of landowners and users. The Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) was successfully implemented in line with international best practices and World Bank principles, ensuring fair compensation and support for those affected.
